1.except作介詞用，意為“除…之外”。指將…排除在外。

Everyone is here except Emily.

所有人都在這里，除了艾米麗。（艾米麗不在這）

Mr Green has to work every day except Sundays.

格林先生每天都要上班除了星期天。

All of my friends are Chinese except Lily. She is from England.

我的所有朋友都是中國(guó)人，除了莉莉。她來自英國(guó)。

except for也可替換except

Everyone is here except (for) Emily.

2.except還可作連詞用，表示除…之外

except (that) +句子

You look just like Jack except (that) he is older than you.

你看起來和Jack一模一樣，只是他比你老一些。

He told me nothing except that he had a surprise for me.

他什么也沒和我說，只說了他要給我一個(gè)驚喜。

(except that在賓語從句中常不可省略that)

except when/where/if +句子

The house is empty except when we came.

房子是空的，我們來了之后才不空。

except do sth.除了做某事 （前面有動(dòng)詞do，except 后省略to）

We had nothing to do except sleep.

我們除了睡覺沒有事情做。

except to do sth.除了做某事（前面無動(dòng)詞do，except后要帶to）

He can't speak except to nod his head.

他不能講話，只能點(diǎn)頭。

TIPS:

此外，要注意except和expect之間的拼寫差別：except除…之外，expect v.期待。要小心不要混淆了。
